Sixth World Solutions (SWS) combines experience, knowledge and expertise in a variety of Fields to create innovative solutions to socio-economic barriers that obstruct progress in Navajo communities. We provide services that help entities working in indigenous communities create and implement efficient and organized management systems that increase local autonomy and funding sources.
Without a multi-faceted approach, the barriers to reservation development will continue to impede progress and perpetuate systems of dependence, increasing the difficulty of implementing meaningful educational or socio-economic programs. For this reason SWS avoids “umbrella solutions” and replication of services. Instead we aim to work within the budgetary and environmental boundaries of existing organizations while catering to the unique needs of every client.
We have spent the past 10 years on the Navajo reservation as well as the international sector working uplift Indigenous lead solutions. We empower local voices that help us identify the vital needs and organizational deficiencies challenging community development. From this experience SWS offers services catered to the organizational needs of our clients.
Whether the problems are managerial, funding, strategic planning, organization, program ineffectiveness, governance, or policy development, we can help. We offer subcontracting services to ensure that when we get an entity on the right track, they have access to the partnerships, resources and talent necessary for long- term success and planning.
Our Top Priorities
Food Sovereignty
Poor and indigenous communities are predominantly affected by the lack of access to health and nutritious food. We work to address the “food apartheid” by identifying areas to strengthen food security.
Water Security
“Water is life” is more than just a talking point. From water rights to water catchment systems we believe that our communities access to water is of the utmost importance. We work to build water security on the individual, communal tribal, and international levels.
Sustainable Housing
From traditional Dine Hogan’s building to utilizing tires, rammed earth or container housing, we work to support alternative, energy efficient, housing options for interested communities.
Energy
The energy landscape can be difficult for small communities to navigate. We create pathways for renewable energy development that upholds the rights of Indigenous Peoples and that is designed and developed based on the cultural values and community principles and protocols necessary for successful community ownership. All aspects of our work and methodology center community capacity building, which includes developing solutions for workforce development.
